About the Birder
The Birder PICOP, Surigao del Sur, 2023 Film photo by Angel Chan |
Hi I’m Cheta Chua, a Filipino-Chinese birder based in Hong Kong. So far, I’ve seen 501 species in the Philippines and around 80% of all endemics, but for the past years, I have mostly birded without a camera and barely have any photos of our endemics.
I manage Birdwatch Philippines Community, which is now the largest PH Birding community and one of the largest FB birding groups in the world. I’m very active there, but don’t expect this blog to be like most of my single species posts in the group.
This blog is my journey to re-document all the Philippine endemics I’ve seen so far and to find the remaining 30+ endemics I have yet to see (all while trying to see them in slippers). I’m not yet a good or quick photographer, so I guess this is a warning that, for now, my posts will be a bit text-heavy. Beyond just trip reports, this blog will involve musings on conservation, taxonomy, and birding-related politics!
